My top 5 albums of 2017

Back to Blog

With the end of the year upon us, it’s time to look back on the year that was and celebrate my favourite songs of the year. 2017 has brought us so many incredible musical moments, collaborations and of course – albums.  Here are my TOP 5:

Gang of Youths – Go Farther in Lightness

Aussie music at its best!  This album makes me smile, cry and wanna hug a unicorn. Lead singer Dave’s vocals are next level sexy raspy, and there are some truly beautiful moments on the album (listen to the song ‘Perevere’ and pack your tissues). There’s also some fist pump moments that will help you shake off even the worst days.

Ed Sheeran – Divide

I know this one is ‘like super mainstream and sooo predictable’ but I genuinely just love the album that Ed has put together. It’s super varied – there are gorgeous romantic songs (Hearts Don’t Break Around Here, Perfect), up-beat ditties (Barcelona, Galway Girl) and then the tear jerkers (Supermarket Flowers, Happier). Also this album was playing in the kitchen when my partner proposed to me this month, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.

DJ Khaled – Grateful

Collaboration central! Beyonce, Jay Z, Chance the Rapper, Justin Bieber, Rihanna – EVERYONE is on this baby!  This album is full of joyful, happy urban music that appeals to everyone. There’s a track on here called ‘I Love You So Much’ that’s an ode to Khaled’s son – it’s insanely gorgeous.

SZA – Ctrl

Kendrick Lamar’s protégé SZA is a force to be reckoned with. This album is just absolutely gorgeous – and gets better with every listen. You might know her from the feature on Maroon 5’s ‘Do What Lovers Do’ – but this album takes things to a whole new level. Influenced by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Lauryn Hill, you can certainly here it in her voice. I LOVE THIS CHICK!

Kendrick Lamar – DAMN

No words for this one. Just get in your car, wind your windows down and blast it. You’ll feel super badass.
