Introducing Khan Porter

Hey guys my name is Khan. I’m 27 years old, live in Sydney NSW and am stoked to be onboard as an ambassador for Bounce.

Growing up, I played Rugby Union from the time I could hold a ball (my dad is a big rugby fan haha) until I finished high school. I played at a representative level and began lifting weights with a rusty second hand bench and barbell I picked up for $25 at a garage sale. I’ve also surfed almost my whole life and competed in surf lifesaving during my high school years.

After I stopped playing sport, working out became an outlet for me. I was constantly looking for new challenging ways to push my body, which demanded focus and allowed me to block out the world around me for that hour or so I was in the gym.

In 2012 whilst living in Sydney studying, I started CrossFit, which I instantly fell in love with. The intensity of the workouts was unlike anything I’d ever experienced and I soon found myself competing at some local competitions.

Less than 12 months later I was competing at the Australasian Championships for the first time and 12 months after that I competed at my first World CrossFit Games in 2014. Since then, I’ve opened my own functional fitness gym, which I manage and do all the programming for in Camperdown, Sydney.

I am back at university studying an honors degree in Psychology and hope to combine my experience in the fitness world with my passion for mental health as I believe movement has a profound impact on our mental and emotional wellbeing, just as mental fortitude plays a huge role in athletic performance.

I take an holistic approach to fitness and believe it should be an ongoing journey both mentally and physically.
